Position Title:   Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis, Southern Oregon

Reports to:        Director of Recreational Programs

Status:               Part-Time, Hourly, Seasonal (up to 15 weeks); Up to 20 hours weekly

The Pacific Northwest Section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA PNW) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization looking for a Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis to serve the Southern Oregon area tennis communities.

RecTennis provides affordable, accessible tennis and life skills programs in a safe environment for players of all ages and skill levels in a high-energy, fun and social learning environment. Creates local jobs and provides ongoing training. Provides free loaner tennis equipment and need-based scholarships to ensure that price is not a barrier for entry. This position partners with hundreds of public and Title I schools, government and cities, public parks and other shared community spaces. The Regional Manager of Recreational Tennis will serve as a key member of the USTA PNW’s Recreational Department to grow the game of tennis in the Pacific Northwest.


Established in 1904, USTA PNW is one of 17 sections of the USTA and provides programs and services to 24,000 members, 200 organizational members, and through its RecTennis recreational programs, more than 40,000 participants all ages, abilities, and socio-economic levels.

As part of its model to create play opportunities as well as jobs and trainings for individuals to give back through the sport of tennis locally, USTA PNW employees more than 600 full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff to focus in primary program areas including Adult Competition, Junior Competition, and RecTennis programs in public parks and schools. USTA PNW also oversee a menu of special events, championship tournaments, and platforms for individuals and teams to engage in the lifelong sport of tennis year-round.

USTA PNW expands mission-driven impact through tennis facility operations by revitalizing existing and/or expanding tennis brick and mortar infrastructure and includes operating, managing, and programming the revitalized facilities. Fundraising and development efforts are undertaken to support increased resources for scholarships and Title I schools.

People You Will Work With

  • Director of Recreational Programs – strategic implementation
  • Department, Facility, Administrative Leadership – annual planning and alignment of promises and deliverables
  • On-Court staff – leading and directing all on-court staff for local RecTennis programming

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Facilitate successful, high quality delivery of recreational programs in assigned area to ensure high quality service is being provided at all times
  • Cultivate relationships and partner with parks and city government
  • Manage, mentor, encourage staff day-to-day at assigned locations and problem-solve when necessary to ensure that seasonal staff feel supported and connected with the USTA PNW mission and each other
  • Recruit, train, schedule and handle all administration related to site directors and instructors
  • Drive registrations and revenues for new and existing programs in the Geopod
  • Fulfillment – acquire, distribute and track equipment to sites (shuffle equipment, when necessary)
  • Lead and assist with program promotion and local grassroots marketing efforts
  • Work in the registration system to create rosters and manage customer data
  • Availability to support staff at various times/days on-court regularly
  • Communicate with parents and/or guardians to solve problems quickly as they arise
  • Administer HotSchedules, GoHire, and other systems as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreational Programs
  • Represent and support USTA facilities and NetGeneration to futher PNW mission and initiatives

Qualifications and Experience Desired

  • Bachelor degree preferred, additional certifications such as USPTA, PTR are preferred
  • Passion for the game of tennis and spreading the mission of USTA/PNW
  • Proven strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong self-starter experience
  • Passion for grassroots marketing and implementing marketing strategies
  • Experience in successfully reaching goals and short timelines
  • Ability to facilitate training, lead and motivate staff
  • General knowledge of Southern Oregon region and major recreational providers and school districts desired
  • Strong computer and digital platform skills
  • Proven experience managing seasonal/part-time employees
  • Ability to work independently and thrive under pressure
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass background check and Motor Vehicle check
  • Must live in geographic area

Travel Demands

Travel across assigned area to promote and develop programs, attend various events, meetings, trainings, and to Beaverton, OR office as needed.  

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position will work out of home office, unless otherwise assigned by Director of Recreational Programs.

  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 40 pounds.
